Alberta.com's Community: Your Town Square Online

Alberta.com invites you to check out our brand new Community space. It's Alberta's Community Directory, where Albertans can interact with local community and grassroots groups. We envision Community becoming Alberta's virtual neighbourhood; it will be your "town square" online.

In this space, Alberta community groups collaborate and communicate with volunteers, staff, as well as the general public. It's also a space where Alberta users will be able to tap into the latest community info. Users will be able to check out volunteering opportunities, find places to worship, or see where their charitable dollars can be put to good use, all in one friendly location.

So, check out Alberta.com Community. Browse some of our pioneer groups, and tell us what you think.

Are you an Alberta non-profit or community group?

If you're a non-profit or community group -- a school, charity group, faith community, amateur sports league or team, civic organization, municipality, hobby group, or even a book club -- then get onboard. If you already have a Website, join Community and tap into added functionality such as chat, message boards, member lists, and events listings and use Alberta.com's Community to promote your initiative. Setting up a site is just a three-step process and you don't even need to know HTML. Groups just have to know what they already know best: their community and their issues.

Oh, and did we mention that it's free!

So we invite you in. Make yourself a home on Alberta.com, Alberta's most popular web guide.

How to Get on-board

  • Go to www.alberta.com/community.
  • Check out some of the existing groups and see how they're using Community.
  • Choose someone who is familiar with your organization to be your "Community Leader"; this person will be responsible for updating your site, will liaise with Alberta's Community Editor, and allows new community members to join.
  • Gather up some content about your organization (whatever you want to say and communicate to the world or your constituents), click on "Start a community group", and follow the instructions.
  • After your group gets approved (a few days, at the max), you can start communicating; changing or adding to your Web pages; inviting new members to join your group; and interacting with each other, Albertans, and the world at large.
  • For more info and detailed instructions, click on Need help?

Enjoy! This is your space.
